I absolutely love Frankenmuth. From the array of Christmas lights to the horse drawn carriages, it’s like a whole different world. There is something about this place that always seems to cheer me up.
First off, there is a little history to know about Frankenmuth. Frankenmuth is a German town that was originally founded by German colonists in the mid 1800s. According to the Frankenmuth website, “The German word “Franken” represents the Province of Franconia in the Kingdom of Bavaria, and the German word “Muth” means courage, thus the city name Frankenmuth means “courage of the Franconians”. After the interstates were built after World War II, the town began more of a tourist destination. To read more about the history, you can check it out here.
In case my pictures can’t convince you, here are 5 reasons why you MUST visit Frankenmuth this holiday season.
Frankenmuth is one of the those places that just lights up your mood. As you can see from the pictures, it is decked out for the holidays. From giant lit trees to manager scenes, the festivities come alive. Basically, you can walk around Frankenmuth and just take in all the sights without even having to spend a dime. There is also some massive window shopping you can participate in and FREE fudge tasting 🙂
This hotel is unlike any other I have stayed at. First off, it is easy to get lost in and it pretty much looks like a castle. The hotel has multiple pools, a ginormous arcade, and two amazing water slides. If you happen to stay here, you have to go down the tube water slide because it is super scary and tons of fun! The Bavarian Inn is a great hotel for both families and couples. On the first level, there is the Lorelei Lounge which frequently has live music, a fantastic gift shop, and an adult pool.
Bronner’s CHRISTmas Wonderlad
Ahhh, Christmas Wonderland. If you have never been to Bronner’s than you are definitely missing out. They sell everything you can think of pertaining to Christmas as well as some other important holidays. The store is divided into sections of ornaments, trees, manger scenes, and much more. You can pretty much find an ornament for anything. They even sell ice cream cone ornaments with sparkles on top! Make sure you look up. There are tons of cool snowmen, Santa’s and other decor hanging around.
River Place Shops
I love to shop. My husband likes to joke and say I have an “addiction” to shopping which could quite possibly be true. Frankenmuth is no exception to this problem. There is a little village just a small bridge away from downtown Frankenmuth with TONS of shopping. It is hard for me to resist going in every store. Each store is different, offering things such as nic-nacs to comedic t-shirts and home decor. There is seriously something for everyone on your Christmas list.
Sugar High Bakery
We have to talk about these cupcakes… Sugar High Bakery was the Season 7 winner on Cupcake Wars. Not only do they sell tons of different types of cupcakes but they sell cinnamon bacon! They have some of the prettiest cakes on display. It seriously feels like walking onto the set of Cupcake Wars or Cake boss. We obviously took a pit stop here and got a gluten free strawberry cupcake!
Whether you make it to Frankenmuth this holiday season or the next, it is a must do experience. Make sure you grab a cupcake, take a romantic carriage ride, and go down the tube water slide at the Bavarian Inn!
